Official says no evidence of damage to wildlife

Posted: June 13, 2012 - 12:01am

KODIAK — State officials have revised downward the amount of diesel fuel estimated to have spilled off Kodiak.

KMXT-FM also says there has been no evidence that wildlife has been harmed.

The spill occurred Friday when a U.S. Army Reserve landing craft went aground after hitting a charted rock just off-shore from downtown Kodiak. The state’s on-scene coordinator Steven Russel says at least 8,000 gallons were spilled from one of the Monterrey’s fuel tanks. He says fuel in another tank was partially pumped out.

Russel says the range of spilled fuel is between 8,000 and 12,000 gallons.

A previous estimate had put the spill up to 15,000 gallons.

Floating booms have been placed around the vessel.

Russel says there are no plans to burn off or use dispersant on the fuel.

Interesting. When its a govt

Interesting. When its a govt ship, it was 15K spilled, no make that 12K, more like 8K... No wildlife were harmed. None at all. Fish die naturally. Look, there is a bird flying by. No harm to birds...If this ship had been owned by Exxon, there would have been 50,000 people out there monitoring, doing studies, etc.
