What is the All-Access Pass?

Effective March 24, all home delivery subscriptions will change to All-Access "memberships." We will no longer offer print only subscriptions. You will have immediate, unlimited and exclusive access to all of our digital content and platforms along with your print subscription. As an All-Access member, you’ll have the ability to receive the Juneau Empire brand of journalism how you want it, where you want it, any time you want it. In addition to the print newspaper, your membership will include the following:

1. The e-Newspaper edition is now included in your membership and is another way for All-Access members to view the paper on your laptop or home computer each day. With easy search features available, this format is a great option when researching old editions of the Juneau Empire.

In addition to the daily print edition, we also offer several digital choices to view the news.

-Our website, JuneauEmpire.com, offers locally produced content from our print edition in addition to breaking news throughout the day. Our site also incorporates video and audio as well as interactive tools such as user-generated content, searchable databases, comment boards, polls and archived newspapers dating back to 2003.

- The E-edition is a digital form of the same paper delivered each morning to your home and stores. You can also access an archive of papers from the past two weeks.

- Our iPad app is an interactive application that allows readers to view a digital replica of our print newspaper presentation and includes additional photos and video. It also allows you to search, share and select different story views.

-Kindle and Nook not available at this time; however, we are working to provide this application in the near future.

How do I use my All-Access pass?

What is JuneauEmpire.com?

This is our most complete and up-to-date source for news and information for Juneau and the surrounding area. You’ll find free and premium (for members) content throughout the site.

What is on JuneauEmpire.com?

As news stories, multimedia and interactive elements are edited and prepared, they are posted into the site sections regardless of print deadlines. Urgent and breaking news generally are posted into “Latest Updates.” There is a searchable archive of stories, guides to area homes, job listing, calendars, obituaries and databases; Daily Deals and many reader services are also available.

What is “free” to non-members and what is “premium” for All-Access membership?

Free content includes the homepage, multimedia (slideshows, Spotted photo galleries, video) and databases. Premium content refers to digging deeper into the website: section fronts, blogs, developed news stories, and stories beyond the homepage. Visitors are given a limited number of premium page views every 30 days while they consider becoming All-Access members.

Which web browsers work best with JuneauEmpire.com?

We have done our best to make this site work with most standard browsers. But some browser programs have significant differences. There are even big variations in versions of popular programs. This site is optimized for Internet Explorer 8.0 or higher and the latest versions of Firefox, Chrome and Safari. You can view most of our site with earlier versions of these and other browsers, but we recommend upgrading your browser to a recent version. How many free page views do I get on JuneauEmpire.com?

We allow a limited number of free premium page views each month. The homepage, urgent breaking news, photos, video, databases, customer service pages and advertising sections (autos, homes, shopping and jobs) are also free.

How do I know how many free page views I have left?

It is not possible to track your free page usage. You will occasionally receive a notice with how many page views you have used, and a notice requiring you to subscribe when you use them all. The meter starts when you first click on a premium story and resets one month later. It isn’t necessarily on the first of the month.

Why do I have to pay to access your web site?

We felt we didn't have a choice but to start charging for the web site. It costs a significant amount of money to produce, and we either had to charge or cut back coverage. We hope you will use the free premium page views that you get each month to see that we have unique content on our web site that is worth the small fee. The journalism we do is more expensive than some other forms. We go beyond the button-pushing journalism some bloggers and copycat online sites offer. It requires staff and financial investment to be your watchdog on government and to report the news you've come to expect from your newspaper.

Where are the obituaries located on your web site?

Where are the comics and the crossword puzzle?

We do not include the comics section or the print edition crossword puzzle on our web site. You can access them through the e-edition s.apps.eedition_url with your All-Access Membership.

Can I search and locate back issues of the Juneau Empire on the Internet? How far back does the archive go?

Stories later than 2003 can be found on our main website http://juneauempire.com/archive.

What is the Juneau Empire iPad app?

It is an interactive application that allows readers to view a digital replica of our print newspaper presentation; this application also includes additional photos and video. It also allows you to search, share and select different story views complete with finger swiping capabilities. This app currently is for Apple iPad users only and requires WiFi or cellular data connection for downloading editions.

Can I access my membership on more than one device?

Yes, you can access the Juneau Empire iPad app on up to five devices.

Will the app work on any devices other than the iPad?

No. The Juneau Empire iPad app is specifically designed to function with Apple’s iPad.

Is the app free?

Yes and no. While the app can be downloaded for free from the iTunes App Store, access into the app requires a membership. Home delivery subscribers automatically have access and only need to activate the account. Go here to activate or here to become a member

Does the Juneau Empire offer any free content for the iPad?

Tap on a story to go to story view. Tap the share icon at the top of the screen, second from right. A menu will appear with social media and comment posting links.

How do I install the Juneau Empire iPad app to my iPad?

Visit the iTunes App Store and search for the Juneau Empire to install the latest version of our application.

My app crashed while downloading an edition. What should I do?

You should quit the app by double clicking the (?) button. When the icon appears at the bottom of the screen, hold it until the icon vibrates/shakes and click the minus sign. Restart the app.

Why does my app crash so often?

Make sure you have the most recent iOS and the latest version of our app. You should also delete old editions of the newspaper that you are finished reading as storing too many old editions will cause the app to perform erratically.

How do I delete old editions?

While the app is open, click the calendar icon near the top left of your iPad app window. All of the editions will appear on the screen. Saved editions will have an “x” at the top right. Click the “x” and confirm deletion.

How can I remove the Juneau Empire iPad app from my iPad?

Touch the application icon on the iPad desktop and hold it until all the application icon vibrates/shakes. You will then see a small “x” in the upper left hand corner of the Juneau Empire icon. Press it to delete the application. You will be prompted to confirm the action. Please note that any saved editions will be deleted if you remove the app.

Why can’t I sign in to the Juneau Empire iPad app?

User name and passwords are case sensitive. If you are still having trouble, you can contact us by calling our Customer Service department at 907-586-3740 .

I have purchased a membership but can’t access the full app?

If you are experiencing difficulties, your first step should be to close and reopen the app. If you are still experiencing difficulties, you should delete the app, reboot your device and reinstall the app in iTunes. Reenter your user name and password when prompted. If that does not work, please click here" to contact our Customer Service department.

Why won’t videos play?

Make sure you have WiFi access. While you can read the edition after it is downloaded, some features, such as video, posting comments and social media sharing require internet access.

Why won’t new content on the Juneau Empire iPad app load?

If your app has crashed, see the answer above for “Why does my app crash so often?” Otherwise, we may have had technical difficulties while creating the online edition. Please be patient and check back later.

What is the Juneau Empire E-edition?

The Juneau Empire E-edition is a digital form of same paper delivered each morning to your home and stores. It is viewed in an Internet browser. The edition does not include advertising inserts and coupons, as they are not provided to us in digital form. You can also access an archive of papers from the past two weeks.

What are the features?

On the left side of the E-edition frame, you will find “What’s Inside” tab allowing you to view a table of contents, “popular” items and thumbnails of pages. Click on any item to begin, and it will appear on the right side. When viewing a page, double-click on an article to open that story in a new view. A single-click on the page will cause it to zoom (“+” and “-“ buttons at the top will do the same). Click on the upper right corner to flip. There is a full screen button in the bottom right. Two weeks of the newspaper are available easily in the index with a search available for other editions for the year. There are additional buttons to adjust your view, print and share in the top-right menu.

How do I find the E-edition?

Load the E-edition through this direct link: http://eedition.juneauempire.com/. Set this as a bookmark in your browser. You can also get to the E-edition by clicking on “Read Today” in the tan bar near the top right of the home page.

What devices will the Juneau Empire E-edition work on?

What should I do if my paper is wet, damaged or missing?

Contact our Customer Service Department. We will redeliver your paper that same day if you contact us by 9 a.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. on weekends (in most delivery areas). You can also use our online submission form. If for some reason we cannot redeliver your paper, we will credit your account.

What do I do if a news rack takes my money?

I purchased a paper from a rack/store and it did not include all of the coupons.

Single copy papers are not guaranteed to have all coupons and advertising inserts. Most do, but advertisers do not always supply enough inserts to cover all single copies. We include inserts in all home subscription papers first and then fill as many single copy papers as possible. The only way to guarantee you will get all of the inserts is to get home delivery (All-Access Membership).

Can I purchase a gift membership for a relative or friend?

Yes. Just call a Customer Service representative at 907-586-3740 and we will set this up for you.

How do I apply to become a newspaper carrier?

We are always recruiting people interested in providing excellent customer service as an independently contracted carrier. You must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license and your own reliable transportation. You can contact our Customer Service Department. Please note, carriers are independent contractors, not employees of the Juneau Empire.

Can I have a vending machine at my place of business or sell papers directly to customers?

If you would like to inquire about getting a vending machine or selling the Juneau Empire in your store, or if you would like to see it available for purchase in a particular location, please Contact our Customer Service Department. We make every effort to have racks conveniently located for our readers and if, for some reason, we cannot accommodate your specific request, we can let you know the nearest rack location.

I just received a bill for my membership. Can I pay it online?

Can I purchase back issues of the print edition of the Juneau Empire?

Yes. Please click the contact link above to contact our Customer Service Department or stop by our Cashier's office. Quantities and availability are limited. We keep back issues for one year.

Can I get additional copies of the coupon inserts?

We don’t sell individual parts of our newspaper separately. However, you can purchase extra copies of a day’s paper at our cashiers office located in the Juneau Empire’s main building. And if you’re looking for a great deal, we offer half-price off our Sunday newspaper (minimum purchase quantity of 10). Visit our cashier’s office beginning Monday morning each week for the prior Sunday paper.
