Friends of city museum seeks charter members

After thirty-five years of fostering an awareness of Juneau’s cultural heritage, values and community memory, the Juneau-Douglas City Museum has established a Friends group to further support and assist the Museum in its mission and already the Friends of the Juneau-Douglas City Museum is setting the bar high.

Only months after officially being established, the fledgling organization, with three incorporators and support of Museum staff, acquired “Early Morning Juneau, Alaska” by Sydney Laurence through auction.

“The acquisition of this painting is an auspicious beginning for the Friends of the Juneau-Douglas City Museum. This positive regard for Juneau art, history and culture will make an incredible difference at the museum and in this community,” says Director Jane Lindsey.

With one acquisition project under its belt, the FoJDCM is now focusing its attention and energy towards building a membership base.

“For several years a small group of museum friends have provided needed support for staff funding and a growing number of educational and community activities. We now need a larger organization to provide this support and are therefore inviting the community to become active City Museum Friends,” says museum volunteer and FoJDCM incorporator Marie Darlin.

Now through July 1, 2011 interested parties can become charter members of the FoJDCM and be part of this groundbreaking stage as the Friends establish membership and work towards future goals.

As a special thank you, charter members will receive a print of “Early Morning Juneau, Alaska.” In addition to the print, Charter Members have the opportunity to have their names listed on donor wall being designed for the entry way of the Museum and will also be listed on the Museum’s website.

Charter members will also enjoy a 20 percent discount in the Museum gift shop, an annual pass (good for the pass-holder and a guest), one complimentary ticket to our annual mining lecture in May, a complimentary Historic Downtown Walking Tour, and a more in-depth quarterly letter from Curator of Collections and Exhibits, Addison Field about recent acquisitions.

The FoJDCM offers a wide range of membership levels that are suitable for individuals, families and businesses however the Charter Membership ($250) is only available now through July 1, 2011. The FoJDCM encourage you to make history and be part of this groundbreaking stage of the Friends group.
