Arts Council purchases new art for Alaska Contemporary Art Bank
Brandon Hauser and Jim Fowler of Juneau are among the 15 contemporary artists whose work was recently selected for the Alaska State Council on the Arts’ Contemporary Art Bank. Their art will be added to the almost 700 pieces in the Art Bank and will be loaned to state offices as part of the agency’s art loan program.
The Art Bank, the only program of its kind in the U.S., supports Alaskan contemporary artists while providing the opportunity for public officials to enjoy art. It is organized through the arts council’s Art in Public Places program, funded through the state Percent for Art program.
The ASCA hopes to purchase more art for the program next year, pending available funds.
Others selected for the Art Bank are: Sonya Kelliher-Combs, Kimberly Marcucci, James Robson, Ryan Romer,
Duke Russell, Ruth Sorensen, Christina Barber and Hal
Gage, all of Anchorage; Carmel Anderson, of Ketchikan; Bill Brody, of Fairbanks; Don Cornelius, of Petersburg; Mike Criss, of Wasilla; Asia Freeman, of Homer;
