Perseverance Theatre’s Summer Theatre Arts Rendezvous (STAR), a theater program for kids, is currently accepting registrations. Rehearsals and classes begin July 11.
This five-week program is geared toward students ages 10-18 who are enthusiastic about theater. As a theater training program, STAR provides an acting opportunity for young people with little to no experience as well as those with a few shows under their belts. Students will work with local and out-of-town professional directors and designers. In addition to rehearsals, students will attend daily workshops in voice and movement where they will learn the techniques to help strengthen and build their acting skills.
This year, students will perform in one of three shows: the musical “Beauty and the Beast”; “The Woman Who Married the Bear,” a play based on a Tlingit story; and Roald Dahl’s classic “James and the Giant Peach.”
STAR runs July 11 through August 13. Tuition is $450. A limited number of full scholarships for Alaska Native students are available thanks to the support of Sealaska Heritage Institute.
