Each year the Juneau-Douglas City Museum solicits applications for solo artist exhibitions in the following season. This year the museum is looking for exhibit proposals for the fall 2012/winter 2013 season.
“The Juneau-Douglas City Museum allows local artists the ability to rise to the occasion of producing work at the museum level,” said Patrice Helmar in a press release. Helmar’s photography exhibit “Honeymoon Tonight” is currently on display at the City Museum through Sept. 26.
“I feel proud that my work is in a building with artists that I’ve looked up to all my life — Sydney Laurence, Amos Wallace, Dale DeArmond, and Trevor Davis to name a handful. I encourage other local artists to apply for the opportunity to show their work among living and past Alaskan legendary artists and artifacts. The Juneau-Douglas City Museum keeps our history and culture as Alaskans living and breathing.”
The City Museum typically features solo artists October through April for one month exhibitions in our main temporary gallery, however, there are occasionally exceptions due to circumstances with the exhibit schedule and individual artists’ availability.
The deadline for solo artist exhibit applications is Monday, August 15, 2011. Local artists working in all mediums are encouraged to apply. Application forms and information can be found at the City Museum or online at: http://www.juneau.org/parkrec/museum/SoloArtistExhibit.php.
