The Alaska Youth Choir recently attended the ‘Sing A Mile High’ Children’s Choir Festival in Denver, Colo., accompanied by artistic director Missouri Smyth, tour manager and accompanist Annette Cordle, and chaperones Matt Smith, Peggy Barnhill and Barbara Vander Vegt. Along with 200 other choristers, they worked with clinician Dr. Rollo Dilworth, Associate Professor of Choral Music at Temple University in Pennsylvania on two commissioned pieces of music written by Dilworth for the festival. During the finale choir concert, the AYC performed a native chant written specifically for them by Kolene and Lyle James. AYC sincerely thanks the community of Juneau and Arts organizations for their continual support in providing opportunities for young people to let their voices be heard through song.
