Canvas classes and events for October

Large Scale Figure Painting with Chris Taylor and Jackie Manning: Tuesdays, Oct 4-Nov 8, 6:30-9 p.m. (6 weeks). Working from the same model for six weeks, students will explore painting the human figure on a large scale. All levels and abilities. $245 (materials included).

Chiaroscuro Drawing with Chris Taylor: Wednesdays, Oct 5-26, 6:30-9 p.m. (4 weeks). Chiaroscuro is the study and depiction of light and shadow on an object, with the goal of capturing the deep variations and subtle nuances of its form. All levels and abilities. $125 (materials included).

Zumba with Ericka Lee: Wednesdays, Oct 5-26, 6-7 p.m. Move to choreographed, high energy music. No experience is needed. $25 for 4 classes, or $7 per class.

Papermaking and Bookbinding with Sherri McDonald: Thursdays, Oct 6-27, 6-9 p.m. (4 weeks). Learn how to hand beat kozo fiber along with cotton and banana tree fibers, hand sew them into pages, and bind them into a book. $95.

Halloween Pottery with Louise Kuntz-Tadda: Sundays, Oct 9 and 16, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. (2 weeks). Build your creation the first week and glaze it the second week. For all ages (young children and adults are welcome to come as a team). $55 (materials included).

Sweater Reclamation with Amy O’Neill Houck: Mondays, Oct 10 and 17, 6:30-9 p.m. (2 weeks) You supply the old sweaters (pre-felted in your washing machine--call for instructions), and we’ll provide the inspiration and tools for building and embellishing your creations. $55.

Capoeira: Mondays, Oct 10 & 24, 6-8 p.m. A martial art from Brazil that combines song, dance, and fight. All levels. Suggested donation $5 (donations benefit the Canvas).

Stained Glass with Joel Abbott: Sundays, Oct 23-Nov 27, 6-9 p.m. (6 weeks). Explore a variety of essential stained glass techniques in this beginner class, including pattern making and design, glass cutting, soldering and finishing work. $325 (materials included)

SPECIAL EVENTS

Studio Tour: Saturday and Sunday, Oct 8 and 9, 1-5 p.m.

SAIL Movie: Wretchers and Jabberers: Friday, Oct 14, 7 p.m. Free movie celebrating Disability Awareness Month. “Wretchers and Jabberers” follows two adult men who experience autism, traveling the world to advocate and educate.

Woosh Kinaadeiyí GRAND Slam (Parallel Trails) with NaMee & Na Haan: Friday, Oct 21, 6:30-9 p.m. Poetry slam series will celebrate its one year birthday with a grand slam and an after party. $5 suggested donation.

Pumpkin Carving Party: Friday, Oct 28, 2-6 p.m. Carve pumpkins with jigsaws, drills and wood carving tools. Bring your own pumpkin. All ages welcome (little kids, please bring an adult to help you with knives and power tools). Free.
