Alaska Native Cultures Film Series’ continues this week with a showing of “The Drums of Winter” on Thursday, Oct. 20, at the University of Alaska Southeast Egan Lecture Hall. The film begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
The Alaska Native Cultures FIlm Series films are shown every other Thursday at the UAS campus in conjunction with the Alaska Native Languages and Alaska Native Studies departments. Each of the films offers a unique look at the diversity of Alaska Native cultures.
This week’s feature, “The Drums of Winter,” explores the art form of drumming, once at the heart of Yupik Eskimo spiritual and social life, and the history, social values and spiritual beliefs of the people of Emmonak.
