Choose Respect initiative offers poster contest for kids

The Choose Respect initiative is offering all Alaska schoolchildren the opportunity to participate in the “Respect: Picture It!” poster contest. Artists should depict respect and what it means to them. Each school district is asked to select one poster in the categories of elementary school, middle school and high school.

School districts should contact Rebecca Lien in the Office of the Governor no later than Dec. 1. Posters should be postmarked by Dec. 12.

In addition, Alaska’s annual community marches to raise awareness about domestic violence, sexual assault and child sexual abuse are set for March 29.

Last year’s Choose Respect marches, the first, attracted residents in more than 50 communities. This year, the organizers hope to surpass 100 communities. The marches are sponsored by the Office of the Governor and nonprofits.
