Thunder Mountain High School opens its 2011-2012 theater season with the musical “Grease.” Six performances will take place Nov. 4 through 12 with a special preview night tonight, Nov. 3, at the TMHS theater.
“Grease,” with its 1950s greasers and bobby- soxers, has been a celebrated musical for 40 years. It tells the story of Danny, who after spending a hopelessly devoted summer with Sandy, the new girl in town, meets up with her at Rydell High on the first day of school. What follows is a rock n’ roll remembrance of growin’ up, cruisin’, and goin’ steady.
The TMHS production of Grease features all of the musical’s popular songs including “Greased Lightin’”, “Summer Nights”, “Born to Hand-Jive” and “We go Together.” For diehard Grease fans needing a bit more, there is also a special “Sing-Along” matinee on Sunday.
This production is directed by Shona Strauser, and presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. Strauser presents the musical as originally intended for the stage, with all the pragmatic reality of growing up in the 1950’s.
The original music and lyrics were written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 (preview night), Friday, Nov. 4 (opening night), Saturday, Nov. 5, and Nov. 10-12. A sing-along matinee will be presented at 2 p.m. Sunday Nov. 6.
Tickets are available at Hearthside Books, The JAHC, and online at jahc.org/buy-tickets.
