Opera to Go has announced the hiring of new executive director Sandy Fortier.
Fortier most recently held the position of executive director of Juneau Jazz & Classics. She is currently on the board of the Juneau Community Bands, plays in the Flutatious flute quartet, and teaches music at her private music studio.
As a flute player and vocalist, Fortier has worked with bands, orchestras, choirs, theaters and arts education organizations throughout the country. She has worked for Theater Aspen in Aspen, Colorado; Jasper Mountain Center and School in Jasper, Oregon; the Willamette Valley Music Festival in Eugene, Oregon; and served on the board of Sparkplug Dance Educational Resources in Eugene, Oregon.
She holds a master’s degree in arts management and a certificate in nonprofit management from the University of Oregon and has a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Northern Colorado.
Fortier joins Opera to Go’s Artistic Director William Todd Hunt.
Now in its 15th season, Opera to Go has a number of upcoming events planned, including a full production of Dvorak’s Rusalka, based on the same myth as H. C. Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid,” as well as a recital by Philippe Damerval, an opera masterclass, and the Amalga Chamber Orchestra performance.
