40-second film contest opens for Northwest artists

The Northwest Film Center has extended an invitation to all Northwest filmmakers to “MAKE IT SHORT: A 40-second film contest,” a challenge to create high-quality work that’s 40 seconds or less.

The entry deadline is Friday, Jan. 6.

This 40-second film contest is being held in celebration of Northwest Film Center’s 40th Anniversary Season, all entries must have a run time 40 seconds or less. Permanent residents of Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington may submit works of any genre. There will be two categories of competition: Youth, for ages 18 and younger, and general, for ages 19 and older. There is no entry fee.

Entries will be screened on Jan. 17 in a free program for the public and jury. In addition to an audience choice award, prizes include cash and production services, and the grand prize winner will see their work screened at the Portland International Film Festival in February.

More information and entry forms are available at the Northwest Film Center’s web site, nwfilm.org/services/makeitshort.
