Marimba
Kids Marimba Saturdays, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Jan 7-28 (4 weeks) For kids 9 and up. $40

Marimba is a large xylophone-like instrument, steeped in the tradition of the Shona people of Zimbabwe. New and experienced musicians welcome.

Beginning jewelry with Rowan Law
Mondays, Jan 9-30, 6-9 p.m. (4 weeks)
Students will learn how to solder, saw, file, texture and rivet using silver and base metals. $185 (materials included).
Color Theory with Jackie Manning
Tuesdays, Jan 10-31, 6:30-9 p.m. (4 weeks)
This course will be completed using acrylic paints and the time will be divided appropriately between lecture and color theory exercises. The subject matter will be predominantly still lives. $145 (materials included).
Human Anatomy with Chris Taylor
Wednesdays, Jan 11-Feb 15, 6:30-9 p.m. (6 weeks)
This figure-drawing course will focus on human anatomy, and will be using charcoal as its main material. It will consist of both lecture and drawing time from a live model. All skill levels and abilities are welcome. $210 (materials included).
Paper vessels with Sherri McDonald
Thursdays, Jan 12-26, 6:30-9 p.m. (3 weeks)
Experience paper on a whole new level as McDonald leads the class in creating vessels from paper pulp and newly formed sheets of paper. Also learn about paper casting and pulp painting. $75 (materials included)
Wordsmiths with Christy NaMee Eriksen
Sunday, Jan 15, 1-3 p.m.
This is a monthly spoken word/poetry workshop series for those who want to work on their writing and presentation techniques in a supportive environment. Each month the class will explore a different writing theme and practice presentation skills, both with guided instruction. Open to writers of all ages and abilities. $10
Leaded Stained Glass Window with Joel Abbott
Sundays, Jan 15-Feb 12, 6-9 p.m. (5 weeks)
Explore a variety of essential stained glass techniques in this beginner/intermediate class, including pattern making and design, glass cutting, soldering and finishing work. Each student will leave with a 24” x 24” leaded stained glass panel. Students are encouraged to come with design ideas and photos of stained glass examples. $275 (materials included).
Soldering Small Sculpture with Tasha Walen
Saturday, Jan 21, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Learn the basics of soldering and create your own small sculptural work of art. We’ll provide the solder and a variety of metal scraps to work with, but feel free to bring additional little bits of metal to incorporate into your one-of-a-kind mini sculpture. Teens welcome. $65

Musical Junk Day

Thanks to financial support from Friends of Recycling, the Canvas is offering an opportunity for aspiring repurpose artists of all ages to make trash musical. Bring supplies to share, and come with an open mind. Supported in part by the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council. $5 suggested donation.
Woosh Kinaadeiyi Poetry Slam and Open Mic with NaMee and Na Haan
Friday, Jan 20, 6:30-9 .p.m
Open to poets and performers of all ages and abilities. Sign up at 6 p.m. The Open Mic (6:30 p.m.) is open to any type of performance. The Poetry Slam (7:15 p.m.) is a friendly competition, with the winner taking home $25 cash. Featuring DJ Manu on the turntables.
