The University of Alaska Southeast has announced the second Art of Place series for spring 2012.
The spring program is designed to complement the UAS One Campus One Book project, which has selected Thomas King’s “The Truth About Stories” as its text for the academic year. Featured artists will be asked to bring stories about their art to share with audience members. In addition, audience members will be invited to bring examples of the featured art and stories to share during the question and answer portion of that day’s program.
Each event will be held on a Friday toward the end of the month, with one event scheduled per month.
Here’s a look at the schedule:
Jan. 27: Art of Place as History: Steve Henrikson and Janice Criswell
Feb. 24: Art of Place as Future: Nick Galanin
March 23: Art of Place as Identity: Ed Kunz and Percy Kunz
April 27: Art of Place as Sustenance: Helen Watkins and one other yet-to-be-identified contributor
All the events will take place in the Glacier View Room 10 a.m.-2 p.m. A dessert potluck is planned following the first three events, and a full potluck will be held after the final event.
Last spring’s Art of Place series featured informal lectures with renowned Alaska native artists Della Cheney, Clarissa Rizal, Doug Chilton, Florence Sheakley, Ed Kunz and Helen Watkins.
The provost office extends thanks to BP and ConocoPhillips for providing funding for this series.
