The City Museum’s Coffee & Collections Series continues this weekend with “Rasmuson Retrospective: Collecting Contemporary Art at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Juneau-Douglas City Museum.
Director Jane Lindsey will provide an introduction to the museum’s mission, collecting guidelines, and themes as they relate to the acquisition of contemporary work by Juneau artists. Lindsey will also discuss the integral role the Rasmuson Art Acquisition Fund has played in Museum’s ability to acquire contemporary art work by active Juneau artists. Thanks to this fund, the City Museum has collected 74 contemporary works of art, by 31 Juneau artists.
This presentation is offered in conjunction with the exhibit “Rasmuson Retrospective” which is on display now through Jan. 28. Eight of the artists featured in the exhibit -- Michael Beasley, Richard Beasley, Ella Bentley-Johnson, Barbara Craver, Mary Ellen Frank, Brandon Hauser, Jack Hermle and David Woodie -- will also be present to talk about how they approach making art and to answer questions about their work.
Coffee for this program is provided by Heritage Coffee Company.
