Cheney to be featured in Tuesday's "One Night Stand" at the JACC

Weaver Della Cheney will be the featured artist for this week's "One Night Stand" at the Juneau Arts & Culture Center. The event runs from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday.

Organized by the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council, these pop-up shows are held Tuesday evenings and feature artists who had received individual artist grants in 2011.

Cheney’s weaving has, in the past, earned her great praise. She was honored with Best in Show in the contemporary category for Sealaska Heritage Institute’s juried art show in 2008 for a raven’s tail robe she designed and wove, called “Women of Justice.”

The first "One Night Stand" featured cartoonist TOE speaking about his recent book “When Sarah Palin Came to Town,” which collects cartoons from the former governor’s rise to power and fame.

The Jan. 31 show will feature spoken-word artist Christie Namee Erickson, who will talk about her studies and projects, including a trip to the APIA Spoken Word Summit in Saint Paul, Minn. and the monthly Poetry Slams at The Canvas Art Studio.
