February is Film Month for the Sound and Motion Series at the University of Alaska Southeast Auke Lake campus. All events take place on Fridays at 7 p.m in the Egan Lecture Hall and are free to the public.
This Friday, Feb. 3, Juneau filmmaker Greg Chaney will show a condensed version of his film “Journey on the Wild Coast,” discuss his editing process and engage in a question and answer session with the audience. This documentary about a couple’s journey by food, paddle and ski from Seattle to the Aleutians won awards at the Anchorage and Banff film festivals and was selected for the Banff World Tour.
Next week, Feb. 10, the Juneau Underground Motion Picture Society extends its Winter Fest of short films by local filmmakers to UAS.
On Feb. 24, the third annual presentation of Treasures from the State Film Library will be featured, with a sampling of vintage films and videos from the historical collection of the Alaska State Library. This evening will be hosted by curator Damon Stuebner.
