The 2012 Andrew P. Kashevarof Memorial Lecture Series, held every Wednesday in February at noon at the Alaska State Museum, continues this week with a look at the Alaska State Archives.
Larry Hibpshman, an archivist with the Alaska State Archives, will present, “The Alaska State Archives: Best Kept Secret in the State,” at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 22. Hibpshman will highlight some of the most interesting documents he has handled during his long tenure with the archives, as well as their meaning and relevance.
Attendees are welcome to bring their own lunch. Admission to the lecture is free.
The Kashevarof Memorial Lecture Series highlights new research by museum and division staff, visiting artists, and scholars. In some instances, presenters display new or seldom-seen historical photos, documents and artifacts. The series is named in honor of Rev. Andrew P. Kashevarof, the first librarian and curator of the Territorial Library and museum, from 1919-1940.
The final lecture in the series will be held Feb. 29, when local historian Jim Geraghty will discuss “President Harding in Alaska.”
