The JAMM (Juneau Alaska Music Matters) program and Marlintini’s Lounge are teaming up to help raise money for and awareness about the JAMM program through a concert to be held Saturday night. The show will feature the all-female AC/DC tribute band Hell’s Belles, who will perform beginning at 10 p.m. at Marlintini’s. For every ticket sold to the show, $5 will be donated to the JAMM program.
JAMM provides local children access to instruments and intensive music training free of charge. Currently all 120 kindergartners and first graders at Glacier Valley Elementary School receive violin instruction as part of their school week to develop self-confidence, teamwork and school readiness skills. JAMM’s Lorrie Heagy hopes to expand to more grade levels and more schools.
Marlintini’s owner Ethan Billings’ worked with Heagy to turn the Hell’s Belles show into a fundraiser To assist in a time of possible local school district cutbacks. His 7-year old daughter has been part of the JAMM program for two years.
“The JAMM program has been great,” Billings said in a press release. “It has taught her discipline, dedication, and pride, among other things. It would be a tragedy if the program did not continue to operate and grow to help the youth of Juneau.”
Tickets to the Hell’s Belles show are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, and are available at Marlintini’s, downtown at the Aurora Projekt, or at the door on Saturday night. For more information on the JAMM program, contact Heagy at the Glacier Valley Elementary School music room, 780-1420.
