This month’s Woosh Kinaadeiyí Poetry Slam and Open Mic event will be held on First Friday, to kick off National Poetry Writing Month in April. The slam, usually held on the third Friday of every month, will return to its regular schedule in May.
The April slam will be held at Choco’s new location, 127 South Franklin St., between Sequence and Latinos, on Friday, April 6. Sign up starts at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 6:30 p.m.
Hosted by Nahaan and Christy NaMee Eriksen, the Woosh Kinaadeiyí Poetry Slam & Open Mic is open to writers and performers of all ages and abilities. Participants are invited to share their poetry, songs and talents, or listen and cheer folks on. Those who want to compete in the slam should bring three original poems to share. The winner takes home $25 cash.
Following the slam, Choco’s will host a dance party, with DJ Manu (Choco’s co-owner Manuel Hernandez) on the turntables.
