Docent training classes begin at Alaska State Museum

Got a few stories about life in Alaska? Interested in giving a little back to the community? Always wanted to see “the rest of the collection” not currently on display? Wouldn’t mind a discount in the Museum Store? All of these things and more are yours when you volunteer as a museum docent, or tour guide, with the Alaska State Museum.

Spring classes are offered each year with different presenters who help volunteers develop insightful tours highlighting the various objects on display at the museum. This year, the classes will be held at the museum during the first three weeks of May on Thursday mornings and Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon. The schedule for giving tours during the summer is flexible, since understandably Alaskans get busy in the summer. Typically, docents donate between 6 to 12 hours per month.
