Art in unusual places

With this new stand-alone photo feature, the Empire’s Arts & Culture section welcomes reader-submitted images of art in unusual or unexpected places. Photographers of all levels of ability are invited to send in images of natural or urban subjects that they find artistically inspiring or intriguing -- especially those that are hidden, natural or accidental in origin. Subjects could include everything from a rock cairn to cloud formations to peeling paint to the designs on a telephone pole (shown in this week’s example). The less obvious the better.

Submit your images to Arts editor Amy Fletcher at, with a description of your subject and where you found it. Images will run as space allows.

Reader-submitted landscape or wildlife shots should still be directed to the Outdoors editor, Abby Lowell, at
