Cedar-bark harvesting class offered in Ketchikan

The Totem Heritage Center in Ketchikan is currently accepting registration for Gloria Burns’ four-day cedar bark harvesting class, which runs from May 19-22.

In this class, students will learn the process of gathering and preparing cedar bark for weaving. Students will be outside in the field for the first two class sessions, Saturday and Sunday, learning to identify red and yellow cedar trees and to harvest bark. On Monday and Tuesday evenings, students will work in the classroom, treating and processing raw materials to prepare them for weaving.
