Celebrity Read-a-Thon to take place Saturday

A Celebrity Read-a-Thon, sponsored by the Partnership for Families and Children, will be held Saturday, May 12, from 2:30 to 4:30 at the Juneau Public Library downtown. The event is a fundraiser for the Imagination Library, which provides free books every month for all Juneau children, from birth to age 5.

The community is asked to support the Read-a-Thon with a pledge to the event; pledges can be made through the Juneau’s United Way at www.unitedwayseak.org/news/celebrity-read-thon.

Juneau families are invited to come and listen to local celebrities read from favorite picture books. Celebrities include Lupita Alvarez, Bob Banghart, Sen. Dennis Egan, Marie Olson, Rep. Cathy Munoz, Dr. George Brown and Glenn Gelbrich.

There will also be cake walks for children, beginning at 2 p.m., allowing 10 kids to take home a cake.

The Partnership for Families and Children is hoping to raise $3,000 for a matching grant from Best Beginnings, which helps finance the Imagination Library. For each $30 pledged, one local child will be provided with one book a month for a year.
