The Goldtown Nickelodeon Theatre will host one showing of the documentary film “Pink Smoke Over the Vatican” on Tuesday, May 15 at 7 p.m. The film deals with the topic of women’s ordination in the Catholic Church. After the film, there will be designated time for Q&A. Invited participants for the post-film discussion are: Reverend Hunter Silides of Holy Trinity Church; Fr. Pat Travers, canonical lawyer for the Juneau Catholic diocese; Jules Hart, “Pink Smoke” filmmaker (via skype); and Olivia Doko, from the Women’s Ordination Conference (also via skype).
“Pink Smoke Over the Vatican” has won several awards including best faith-based film from the AOL International Film Festival and best documentary from the Santa Fe Independent Film Festival, both in 2010. There is a suggested donation of $5.

The patriarchy that is the Catholic church refuses to ordain women because of "tradition." Christ was a man, therefore, only men should be ordained.
Given that logic, then they should only ordain Jews since Christ was also a Jew.
But what the church really means is, "women are inferior and unworthy of priesthood."
Seriously. Aside from retracting that the world really isn't flat, the Catholic church, once it has stated a position, rarely changes that position over time.
And this is why the Catholic church is opposed to contraception, but 90%+ of Catholics in the U.S. use or have used contraception in their lives.
Hypocrisy.
Love thy neighbor as thyself...unless thy neighbor is a woman, then love her less.
That's their message.
