Sweating Honey to play at the Rendezvous Tuesday

Alaska’s own Sweating Honey will be in town to help Juneau celebrate one of the most festive nights of the year -- July 3. The band will play one night only on Tuesday at the Rendezvous, beginning at 9 p.m.

Fairbanks-based Sweating Honey formed in 1999 when the founding members were freshman at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, drawing energy from their shared interest in experimenting with genre -- classical, roots, bluegrass, jazz, rock, latin and hip-hop, to name a few. Key influences are equally wide-ranging, and include James Brown, Ryan Adams, Paul Simon and Tower of Power.

The band released their first studio album, “Infinity’s Doorstep,” in 2005 and their second, “When We Were Young,” in 2008, and are currently working on two more -- one funk-oriented, one Americana.

Band members are Luke Beckel (vocals/guitar/mandolin/keys), Drew Frick (guitar/vocals), Brady Anderson (trap set/cajon), Nick Shier (percussion), Jeremiah Bakken (bass guitar/guitar/vocals), Corwyn Wilkey (vocals/trumpet/percussion) and Scott Caddell (tenor sax/percussion).
