STAR, kids theater program, begins July 9

Perseverance Theatre will once again host their Summer Theatre Arts Rendezvous (STAR), a five-week program for students ages 10-18 who are enthusiastic about theater. Rehearsals and classes begin July 9.

As a theater training program, STAR is a great opportunity for young people with little to no experience as well as those with a few shows under their belts. Students will work with local and out-of-town professional directors and designers.

In addition to rehearsals, students will attend daily workshops in voice and movement where they will learn techniques to help strengthen and build their acting skills.

This year, students will perform in one of three shows: the classic musical “Pirates of Penzance Jr.,” “The Bailer at the Back of the Boat,” a play based on a Tlingit story, and Shakespeare’s well-known tragedy “Romeo and Juliet.”

STAR runs July 9 through Aug. 12. Tuition is $450. A limited number of full scholarships for Alaska Native students are available thanks to the support of Sealaska Heritage Institute. Call today to sign up, or contact Shona Strauser at 364-2421 ext. 232 for more details.
