Gardeners Association to conduct annual tours this weekend

Southeast Master Gardeners Association will conducti their rain-or-shine annual tour of gardens around Juneau this weekend. This year’s event, a scholarship fundraiser, will be held Saturday and Sunday, July 14 and 15, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Fifteen gardens will be on tour this season: 6 gardens on Saturday in the Valley area, and 9 gardens on Sunday on Douglas Island.

All tickets are $20 for one or both days. Advance tickets are available at JACC, both Hearthside Books stores or online at www.jahc.org or www.sealaskamastergarderners.org.

No children under 10 or pets are permitted on the tours.

On Saturday, tickets can be exchanged for a map guide and garden descriptions at Alaska & Proud market lobby or Carrs/Safeway food court from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased at those locations at the same time.

Southeast Master Gardeners Association scholarships are given to graduating seniors interested in horticulture, botany, landscaping, environment, agriculture and related areas. In past years, some of the scholarship winners have had gardens on the annual tour. SEAKMG also awards prize money in the Juneau School Districts’ Science Fairs.
