North Star Music Academy will present its first ever cabaret on Sunday, July 29, at 7 p.m., at the Seventh Day Adventist School.
The cabaret is the culminating event of a two week musical theater master class series, led by New York City-based director and performing artist Terry Lynn LeCompte.
Eleven vocalists will be performing: Sarah Penrose, Lauren McDowell, Paige Cassell, Acacia Poulson-Edwards, Megan McAllister, Asia Ver, Marina McDowell, Ashleigh Watt, John Clough, Kris Clark and Amy Lamonica. They will be accompanied by NSMA director and instructor Megan Felts.
LeCompte’s relationship with the Juneau arts community began in 2009, when she was asked to direct the 2009 production of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” for Perseverance Theatre’s STAR program. She’s been back every summer since then. This summer’s project was produced in collaboration with Lecompte’s Community Stages, a pending nonprofit that provides custom-designed theater arts workshops for kids.
The suggested donation for Sunday’s event is $10. Proceeds will benefit the Aplastic Anemia & MDS Foundation and the Seventh Day Adventist School.
