King Island Christmas will return during the 2012 holiday season, with performances at Aldersgate United Methodist Church the weekend after Thanksgiving and at the Juneau Arts & Culture Center the first weekend in December -- and, if all goes according to plan, on to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2013.
Auditions will be held at Northern Light United Methodist Church on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 1 p.m., and on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 13 and 14 at 6 p.m.
With libretto by playwright Deborah Brevoort and music by David Friedman, the oratorio for “King Island Christmas” is based on the chldren’s book of the same name, written by Jean Rogers and illustrated by Rie Muñoz. Last seen in Juneau in 2010, Deborah Smith, Missouri Smyth and Sharon Gaiptman have joined forces once again to bring the holiday favorite to the stage and to honor Jean and Rie by donating a portion of the funds raised for the arts endowment housed at the Juneau Community Fund.
