In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, observed in October, and Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness Month, observed in April, the Office of the Governor has invited all Alaskan youth to participate in the 2013 Choose Respect Student Poster Contest. All Alaska school children from preschool through high school are eligible to participate. Home schools, alternative and traditional schools are all welcome. Youths are asked to send a positive message about respect and healthy relationships by creating a poster depicting this year’s theme, “iRespect,” with appropriate imagery and wording.
Here are some guidelines:
• Posters should be no larger than 9”x12” or smaller than 8.5”x11”
• Bold colors and simple fonts are best
• Posters can be electronically or manually designed
• Submissions should include the name of the artist, school, and grade as well as the teacher’s contact information on the back of the poster.
Teachers are asked to select a finalist from each classroom to submit to the Governor’s Office by Dec. 10. The winning artwork will be professionally printed and promoted along with the Choose Respect marches in March 2013. The winner’s classroom will win an ice cream party sponsored by Jewel Lake Tastee Freez, anywhere in Alaska.
