Kid-rocker Jim Cosgrove, known to many of his fans as Mr Stinky Feet, will be in town for a performance this weekend at the Juneau Douglas High School auditorium. This family event begins at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30.
Singer-songwriter Cosgrove, whose brother is local storyteller Tom Cosgrove, is a former journalist who has been performing for kids and their families for the past 12 years. Described as “The most intriguing children’s entertainer out there right now” by the Kansas City Star, Cosgrove has released seven CDs and two DVDs, many of which have won awards from Parents’ Choice. He counts Woody Guthrie, Pete Seger, Joni Mitchell and Jimmy Buffett among his musical influences. To listen to samples of his work visit www.jimcosgrove.com/music.htm.
Over the years, Cosgrove has also built up a reputation as a public speaker, applying what he has learned in working with kids to the adult realm.
“Taking a child-like approach to life — that is, being childlike, not childish, in everything I do — has really been the biggest breakthrough of my entire life,” Cosgrove says in a video clip of one of his presentations “Live Like a Child.’
Tickets to Sunday’s show, a fundraiser for the Juneau Montessori School, are $10 for general admission and $5 for kids, with kids under 2 getting in free.
