Juneau Lyric Opera and the Juneau Douglas High School Theatre Department have joined forces to present the musical comedy “Hairspray,” opening Friday.
Directed by Hal Ryder, from Cornish College of the Arts, the production is co-produced by John Clough and Scarlett Adam.
“Hairspray” is a musical based on a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, with music by Marc Shaiman, and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman. The original Broadway production opened in 2002 and won eight Tony Awards.
Performances will run at 6:30 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday, and then continue next weekend, at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 and 10 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 11. All shows are at the JDHS auditorium.
