Perseverance Theatre continues its 2012-2013 season with the Tony Award-winning musical “Oklahoma!”, a collaborative project with Juneau Dance Unlimited.
“Oklahoma!,” considered one of the most influential works in American musical theater, was the first musical collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein. Perseverance’s production is directed by Shona Strauser, a well-known local actor and singer who is making her directorial debut, with musical direction by Sally Smith and choreography by Ricci Adan, of Juneau Dance Unlimited.
“Oklahoma!” opens Friday Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m. and runs through Dec. 9. Performances are Thursdays through Sundays at 7:30 p.m. with a final Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9. Based on Lynn Riggs’ 1931 play, “Green Grow the Lilacs,” “Oklahoma!” features original dances by Agnes de Mille and musical hits such as “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning” and “Oklahoma,” among many others.
The cast includes Mimi Benjamin, Leonid Grinberg, Christina Apathy, Stephen Rothchild, James Sullivan, Enrique Bravo, Allison Holtkamp, Frank Katasse, Margeaux Ljungberg and George Holly, as well as a chorus and orchestra. the artistic team in addition to Strauser, Smith and Adan includes Art Rotch on sets, Greg Goff
on lighting, Rick Silaj on costumes and Krissy Larson as stage manager.
