Rockwell to host movie fundraiser to help Gastineau Apartments residents

The Gold Town Nickelodeon has organized a Movie Marathon Fundraiser this Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight to help residents displaced by Monday’s Gastineau Apartments fire.

The marathon will be held at Rockwell, in the Old Elks Lodge on South Franklin Street, directly adjacent to the Gastineau Apartments building.

A silent auction will be held during the marathon, and donations are still being accepted.

The fire, which burned for nine hours from about 5 p.m. Monday until 2 a.m. Tuesday morning, displaced 40 to 50 residents of the apartment complex, located on South Franklin Street across from Hearthside Books. No casualties were reported.

Monetary donations for fire victims can also be dropped off or mailed to 3225 Hospital Drive, Juneau AK 99801, with a note indicating the funds are for the Gastineau Apartments fire.

Donations of non-perishable food, clothing and the like can be dropped off at the Salvation Army, 439 West Willoughby Street. Blankets, sleeping bags and clothing from the public are also welcome. Any item that is donated and not used in this effort will be donated to local social services agencies.
