Slam poetry and improv come together this Friday at Poetic License

This Friday, The Canvas will host Poetic License, an improvised slam poetry exhibition, beginning at 8 p.m. Poets of all levels are invited to create poetry on the spot based on suggestions from the audience and from fellow poets.

Prior to the show, Kate Laster will host a workshop that teaches participants how to create slam poetry instantly. She will be discussing chutzpah and confidence, poetic and emotional styles, and how to get the ideas from the brain to the mouth without second-guessing. The workshop begins at 6 p.m.

The workshop and performance are part of The Improject, a monthly production by Morally Improv-erished designed to develop and highlight improvisational performance skills. Both the workshop and the performance are free of charge, with donations to The Canvas recommended.
