The Alaska State Archives’ Exxon Valdez Litigation Project has added 500 slides to the Alaska’s Digital Archives website at tinyurl.com/evosslides. The collection contains images taken by the Governor’s official photographer, who took 2,000 photographs in the early days of the spill. Content varies; there are tanker and community images, spill response in progress, affected wildlife, and individual people. The slides are in the public domain and can be used without reproduction fee.
Other resources are available on the State Archives web page, at archives.alaska.gov/valdezProject.html, including Project Archivist Sara Bornstein’s Exxon Valdez Litigation Documents Project slide show. An index to all Governor’s slides and the remaining 1,500 slides are available for use at the State Archives.
