Write Young Alaska is now accepting submissions for their latest contest for young writers. Titled “My Alaska,” the contest welcomes submissions from Alaskan writers aged 20 and under.
Here is a description of the contest guidelines: “Tell us what Alaska — your home, your village or town or city — means to you. We’re looking for real stuff here, raw feelings, who you are, what it means to be you, or even who you hope to be. Can you compare your life to an elder or someone in your community you admire? Can you show how you know who you are?
Awards of $25 will be given to the best story or creative nonfiction in three age groups: 10-12, 13-15 and 16-20.
The deadline for entries is Feb. 14.
WYAK also publishes “Alaska Out Loud,” an online zine that welcomes submissions of original fiction, poetry, memoir, drama, literary nonfiction, comics and visual art. Authors and artists should be 20 years old or younger and current Alaska residents, and all work should be original and previously unpublished.
Submissions are accepted and published on a rolling basis. For more, visit www.writeyoungak.com/submissions/.
