Digital Archives posts traditional Athabascan story

As part of its project to digitize Alaska Native language materials, the Alaska State Library Historical Collections has posted Hannah Maillelle’s “Dzax Dina Xudhoy” (“Spruce-pitch man story”) to Alaska’s Digital Archives.

“Dzax Dina Xudhoy” is a traditional story told in Holikachuk Athabaskan by Hannah Maillelle and transcribed by Chad Thompson. Published in 1987, it is written in both Athabaskan and English, with illustrations by Cindy Davis. The online version can be viewed as a PDF of the printed book.
