Two exhibits to close at the Alaska State Museum

Two temporary exhibits on display at the Alaska State Museum will be closing on Jan. 12: the solo artist exhibit by Alaska science illustrator Kristin Link, “Notes from Nature: A Naturalist-Artist in Alaska’s Wilderness,” and the photographic exhibit of images collected as part of a major biological and geological survey of Alaska’s coastal zones, “Coastal Impressions: A Photographic Journey Along Alaska’s Gulf Coast.”

Link’s exhibit presents a body of work inspired by field sketches from Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. A graduate of the Science Illustration program at California State University Monterey Bay, Link works out of McCarthy, specializing in illustrations, murals, interpretive signs and other graphic work.

“Coastal Impressions: A Photographic Journey Along Alaska’s Gulf Coast” is a photographic exhibit of images collected as part of a major biological and geological survey of Alaska’s coastal zones. Selected from tens of thousands of digital photographs obtained during aerial surveys in the Gulf of Alaska and Southeast Alaska, “Coastal Impressions” presents the natural history and scenery of a remote area inaccessible to most visitors and residents. This exhibit is sponsored by the Cook Inlet Regional Citizens Advisory Council and developed in partnership with NOAA Fisheries, AFSC Auke Bay Laboratories and the Alaska ShoreZone program.

Winter hours at the museum are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Discounted winter admission is $3.
