Juneau Cabaret, an evening of cabaret music performed by local vocalists and accompanists, will be held Sunday, Jan. 20 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Juneau Arts & Culture Center. The performance is pay as you can.
Featured vocalists are Stefanie Callos, John Clough, Ileta Galau, Derrick Grimes, John Haywood, Clifford Johnson, Olga Lijo, Bobbi Mitchell, Madi Nolan, Therese Thibodeau, Dan Wayne and Greg Williams, and featured accompanists are Jacque Farnsworth, Megan Felts, Beverly Haywood, Tom Locher, and David Sheakley.
Juneau Cabaret provides singers and accompanists a performance opportunity in a relaxed setting. Vocalists range from students to semi-professionals, and songs include jazz standards, musical theater songs and some pop tunes.
The idea for the event grew out of an invitation-only gathering of local singers and accompanists in a rehearsal hall (Big Blue). Two subsequent performances overflowed the small space, and the event moved to a local restaurant in 2011. After outgrowing that space as well, Juneau Cabaret relocated to the JACC, and is now held there four times a year
Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase. Audience members under 21 must sit in a specified alcohol-free area or be accompanied by a parent.
