2013 Art of Place series begins tomorrow

The Art of Place lecture series will begin again in 2013 tomorrow, Jan. 25, with a lecture from 10 a.m. to noon, featuring Ed and Percy Kunz. They will be talking about traditional and contemporary gathering and preparation of local fish. They plan to talk about dryfish, smoked fish, and half-smoked fish, and will share personal experience and knowledge on this place-centered art.

The event will take place in the Glacier View Room at the University of Alaska Southeast campus with coffee and light refreshments, along with the chance to visit with the artists and others following the presentation. Attendees are encouraged to bring examples, stories and questions, as well as to invite students, family and friends to attend.

Future events will take place monthly and will feature speakers on the topics of local plants, herring eggs, seaweed and more.
