Improv: First Saturday event debuts at the Gold Town

Improv: First Saturday, an evening of unscripted local theater, will hold its debut event this Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Gold Town Nickelodeon. February’s show features Rorschach Pattern 9, Poetic License, and Morally Improv-erished.

Rorschach Pattern 9 is a new show featuring long-time improvisers Mike Christenson and Eric Caldwell. In the show, Christenson and Caldwell intersperse chaotic beat lyrics with improvised scenework.

“It’s been inevitable that Mike and I would be doing duo pieces,” says Caldwell. “The question has been finding the right format. With Rorschach Pattern 9, we’re making sense out of nonsense – just like the show’s namesake.”

Poetic License features Woosh Kinaadeiyi champions Kate Laster and Mike Christenson creating improvised slam poetry based on audience suggestions. The show debuted as an exhibition piece in November 2012 at The Canvas to an enthusiastic reception.

Morally Improv-erished will return to the stage performing a mixture of unscripted scenes, including the popular “Five Scenes” where the title of each scene is based on audience suggestion.

Tickets for Improv: First Saturday are $10 and available at the door. Doors will open at 9 p.m., with the show beginning at 9:15 p.m.
