Singer-songwriter John Elliott to perform twice this weekend

Singer songwriter John Elliott will be in town this weekend for two performances.

San Francisco-based singer-songwriter John Elliott will be in town this weekend for two performances, a visit sponsored by UAS Student Government. The first, offered as part of UAS’ Sound and Motion series, will be held Friday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m. at the UAS REC Center, located at 12300 Mendenhall Loop Road. The performance is free and open to all.

Saturday night, Feb. 2, Elliott will be moving downtown to perform at the Rookery Cafe. The show is also free and begins at 7 p.m.

Born and raised in Minnesota, Elliott has been releasing albums and performing since 2006. His music has been widely featured television, including on the shows “Grey’s Anatomy,” “One Tree Hill,” and “Californication,” as well as on NPR and on Neil Young’s “Living With War” website.

While Elliott is in town he will also be offering a songwriting workshop for students, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 2 from 2-4 p.m. at the Housing Lodge. He is also scheduled to visit creative writing and English classrooms on campus.

Elliott’s performance at the UAS Rec Center marks the first time this season that a Sound and Motion event is being held in this location. It also kicks off a series of three consecutive First Friday arts events that will be held at the Rec Center. On the First Friday in March, there will be a showing of the Argentininan film “The Finger,” part of the Global Lens Series (March 1). Then in April, local musician Irene Muller and her band will perform (April 5).
