This week’s Fireside Lecture will be Harbor Seals on the Move,” led by National Park Service biologist Jamie Womble. Her presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, and will repeat at 8 p.m. at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center.
Wildlife and Marine Biologist Womble leads the harbor seal research and population monitoring in Glacier Bay National Park. Her most recent research has focused on using satellite-linked transmitters to track the overwinter migrations of harbor seals in and from Glacier Bay. Park researchers have been documenting extensive migrations of seals during the winter to areas throughout much of northern Southeast Alaska and even up to Prince William Sound.
