Juneau String Ensembles to perform Saturday

The Juneau String Ensembles will perform their annual chamber music concert at Northern Light United Church on Saturday, Feb 9.

Led by recent Mayor’s Award winner Guo Hua Xia, various configurations of the group will perform the music of Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart and Schumann, as well as Asian traditional music and more. The program begins at 7 p.m. at Northern Light United Church. Tickets are $10 at the door, and children and students are free.

Juneau String Ensembles is currently composed of 35 students, ages 8 to 18, who also perform as three smaller groups -- Ursa Major, Aurora Strings, and Ursa Minor -- under Xia’s direction. The Ensemble is currently raising funds to travel to China in June. So far they have raised 30 percent of their fundraising goal playing music for the community and tourists last year.
