Earlier this year, in honor of Human Rights Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Juneau Human Rights Commission organized an essay contest for local middle school students on the topic of human rights. The deadline for those essays is nearly here: March 22.
Essays should be 500 words or less and answer the following question: “What role does human rights play in your life?” All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in Juneau are welcome to participate.
Winners from each grade level will be announced April 26, and awarded $100. Of all the entries, one will be chosen for publication in the Juneau Empire. Essays may be submitted c/o JHR Essay Contact, CBJ Clerk’s Office, 155 S Seward St Juneau, AK 99801, or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
