Tracy Helming, a professional Suzuki instructor, will return to Juneau for the Juneau Jazz & Classics Annual String Workshop at the University of Alaska Southeast, the weekend of March 23-24. The workshop is open to young string players of all ages and levels. Registration is open now for private lessons, group lessons, and master classes, plus special seminars.
Helming has worked with young violinists and violists in Juneau for the annual workshop for several years. She holds a master’s degree in violin performance from the Yale School of Music and received her training at the Hartt School of Music. In addition to a busy performing schedule, she teaches at Suzuki institutes throughout the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.
Local guest instructors will be offering special seminars, a new addition for 2013. Guo Hua Xia will conduct Orchestra class, Lorrie Heagy and Susie Denton will be teaching Expressing Music Through Movement, and Greg Burger will teach Traditional Fiddle.
A complete schedule of class offerings and registration are available at www.jazzandclassics.org. Fees vary, and scholarships are available. All classes are held in the Egan Wing of the University of Alaska Southeast. The public is invited to the culminating performance, a free recital by participants at 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, followed by light refreshments.
