A group of local children’s book writers and illustrators will be hosting a question and answer session on the chidlren’s book world this Saturday at the downtown library. Among the hosts will be Stefanie Tatalias from Anchorage, the Alaska Regional Advisor for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and local writers Sarah Asper-Smith, Susi Gregg Fowler, Ann Boochever, and Peggy McKee Barnhill, plus local illustrators Mitch Watley and Jim Fowler. The assembled panel will talk about their experiences in the children’s literature field in the large conference room at the downtown library from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 6. Tatalias will also provide information on the SCBWI group.
Sarah Asper-Smith is the author of two picture books, “Have You Ever Seen A Smack Of Jellyfish?” which she illustrated, and “I Would Tuck You In,” illustrated by her husband, Mitch Watley. Susi Gregg Fowler is the author of nine books for children, her most recent being “Arctic Aesop’s Fables: Twelve Retold Tales,” illustrated by her husband, Jim Fowler (his 14th book for children). Ann Boochever is working under contract on revisions for a middle-grade novel, and Peggy McKee Barnhill, a regular columnist for the Empire, is working on novels for middle grade and adult readers.
